TRIP DETAILS

Central Europe is a fascinating place with great history and culture, sparkling cosmopolitan cities, lovely little medieval towns, and picturesque landscapes. This unique tour is not only an excellent opportunity to learn about different variety of farming: from 100 to 20,000 ha - small private farms in Austria, mid-sized private farms in Czech, and large corporate and COOP farms in the Czech Republic and  Slovakia. We will also visit three breathtaking European cities: Prague, Vienna, and Bratislava and 3 prominent UNESCO sites of Kromeriz, Telc, and Cesky Krumlov.

 

ITINERARY

Day 1: Vienna Arrival

• Arrival in Vienna, transfer to the hotel
• Lunch
• Guided city tour of St. Stephan's Cathedral (interior), Hofburg Imperial Palace (exterior), and Schoenbrunn Palace (interior) including its enchanting gardens
• Relaxing evening walk and welcome dinner
• Overnight in Vienna


Day 2: Austria – Private arable and pig farm, Private wine farm

• Private arable and pig farm growing maize, wheat, and sugar beet too. The farm owner, an active member of Austrian AG chamber, will give a general presentation on Austrian Agriculture
• Our second technical visit is a private wine farm N of Vienna. We will see the vineyards and a wine processing hall, and finish in the winegrower's house to enjoy a great variety of Austrian dishes
• Transfer to Slovakian capital Bratislava
• Overnight in Bratislava


Day 3: Slovakia – Arable farm + beef breeding, Trnava, Bratislava

• Modern arable and beef farm (1300 ha) growing wheat, barley, maize, sugar beet, beef breeding (Fleckvieh)
• Brief city tour of Trnava, an impor ant Slovak historical town
• Bratislava – guided city tour: castle and historical center
• Dinner in Bratislava´s downtown restaurant
• Overnight Bratislava


Day 4: Slovakia – Biofarm Charolais, Czech Republic - eco village

• Biofarm Charolais – size 300 ha, ecological breeding of Charolais
• Transfer to Czech republic
• Eco-friendly village, favorite place of prince Charles, unique little village with a public reed bed sewage purification plant, solar power and central biomas rating, an apple juice factory for the local producers, passive house conference
• Transfer to Brno
• Overnight in Brno


Day 5: Czech – dairy farming, Kromeriz (UNESCO), Straznice open air museum

• Modern dairy and arable farm of British investors in Moravia 22000 ha, arable farming – wheat, barley, sugar beet, maize; dairy cows - production 10.000 l
• Kromeriz (UNESCO), dominated by gorgeous Archiepiscopal chateau and gardens
• Open Air Museum of Moravian Village in Straznice - an excellent opportunity to learn about the peasant life from the early 18th till the beginning of the 20th century
• Dinner in wine cellar. Wine testing, moralism folklore music.
• Transfer to Brno
• Overnight in Brno


Day 6: South Bohemia : corporate farm, private goat and sheep BIO farm, Telc

• Transfer to Southern Bohemia
• On the way visit of modern Corporate farm: 5400 ha, arable, dairy, beef, GPS equipped machinery, new energy Biogas
• Private goat and sheep BIO farm - about 650 goats and 50 sheep, with their own dairy plant, producing top quality bio products. Chance to taste excellent home made bio cheese and yoghurts

• UNESCO listed town of Telc – city tour of the monumental Renaissance chateau with an English-style park and the Town square, an elongated square with well-conserved Renaissance and Baroque houses with high gables and arcades
• Dinner and relaxing evening walk through historical center of Ceske Budejovice.
• Overnight in Ceske Budejovice


Day 7: Private dairy farm, Budweisser Brewery, Cesky Krumlov

• Private dairy farm, using milking robots for their 130 dairy cows (Holstein),
farm built in 2008 on the territory of former cooperative
• Famous Budweisser brewery visit - beer tasting
• Visit of picturesque town of Cesky Krumlov (UNESCO), famous for its Old town with 300 medieval buildings and castle complex second largest in Czech
• Overnight in Ceske Budejovice


Day 8: Prague

• Morning transfer to Prague,
• Guided city tour of the Old Town with Astronomical Clocks and famous 14th century Charles bridge
• Free afternoon for shopping or individual sightseeing
• Farewell dinner
• Overnight in Prague


Day 8: Departure (Prague airport)

• Transfer to the airport for your departure flight
